Musculoskeletal pain has two causes: trauma (sudden injury) or overuse (gradual injury). Sudden injuries are best treated by your doctor, but overuse can lead to a cycle of pain unless you change the way you move. Here at the acture lab we use the Feldenkrais Method® to help you in three ways:
- find ways to release habitual muscle tensions that cause pain through overuse
- find new ways to keep doing the things you love to do, during recovery
- find new patterns of action to avoid re-injuring yourself
Chronic pain can also be helped at the acture lab. Our approach is to focus on the attentional aspects of the Feldenkrais Method®. We work with your whole self to explore approaches to comfort, gently increase your easy movement repertoire, and slowly build confidence.
What is the difference between overuse and chronic pain?
Pain is experienced through our nervous system. Most of us experience pain when the nervous system detects damage in our muscle or joint tissues (overuse). Some people have healthy tissue but, for reasons science can’t completely explain yet, get pain signals from their nervous system (chronic pain).
